I amplify the voices of everyday people, with a special focus on immigrants—uncovering their stories, highlighting their contributions, and fostering more inclusive communities. I am particularly drawn to the lives of Portuguese immigrants as they navigate new cultures and redefine home.

Emilia Maia is a freelance journalist passionate about telling everyday people’s stories. She has spent four years reporting for The Click on social issues, immigrant experiences, and government accountability. With 25+ years in the pharmaceutical industry, she brings a unique perspective to her reporting, leveraging expertise in marketing, consultancy, and business development.

Born in Angola and raised in Portugal, Emilia moved to the U.S. in 2001. She holds an MBA from Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Portugal, and a professional writing certificate from Penn. She is pursuing an MA in Journalism at NYU, which she expects to complete by May 2026, and has been an instructor in the MBA communication department at Wharton for 10 years.

"I want to amplify the voices of everyday people, particularly immigrants, by uncovering their stories, highlighting their contributions, and fostering more inclusive communities. Through storytelling, I aim to bridge cultural divides, challenge stereotypes, and create a deeper understanding of the immigrant experience in all its complexity."
